Renewable Energy Doesn't Suck

Climate Change. Renewable Energy. The pro-renewables lobby. The “big-industry, pro oil” lobby. UK Government. Federal Government. ANOther Government. Member of the public. Member of the UK public manipulating planning to your own end. Which lobby are you in? Gloves off ladies and gentlemen. Its time to get it all out in the open. Before we are all toast.

Renewables and the Climate vs the anti-wind lobby

In the days of climate change, where it is clear that we are all heading for big trouble, when it comes to reducing energy demand, reducing emissions and increasing renewable energy there appear to be two conflicting camps.

On the one hand we have a range of governments who purport to be “pro-renewable, energy reducing” (or not, as the case may be). We also have a wide range of members of the public who would like to do something but haven’t yet dot their heads around how to do so. And some others who want to do something and are doing it.

On the other hand we have the Federal Government, with a clearly “anti renewables” policy, but the Fed is anti-most-things foreign-policy-wise so we have to rely on the efforts of State and City governance over there to achieve a renewables policy delivery.

Here in the UK we also have a minority group who really don’t care and appear to place their own pleasure before the issues of climate change. Whether this is manifest in raising objection in the planning system (in the interest of “preserving the value of their property” – even though this is a fallacious argument) or “protecting the countryside” – even though this is not only scattered with a variety of objects such as cell phone masts, radio towers or other tall things like chimneys (or the cooling towers at Didcot, or the containment building at Sellafield or Sizewell, for example) doesn’t seem to matter.

Now that’s an interesting way of taking life forwards. “Preserve the Countryside, Wreck the Environment”. Or “keep away from my house, I want to enjoy the view, the view that will be gone in years to come”.

I would say that I’m an eco-evangelist, if that is what someone who stands up and “says it how it is”, does. As far as I am concerned, if it isn’t “said how it is” we are likely to all be toast in the years to come. We may very well be anyway but one of the things about people is that they do go down fighting. And I’m a fighter!

So here is my blog. Get it out on the table. Lets hear what the respective camps have to say to each other. I would like to hear some respective justifications. Judging by the “pro-vs-con” bun fights that I have experienced in some of the public meetings I have presented to recently this might be interesting.
